Welcome back to our special VGC 2019 team of the month with the incredible, powerful and overused Kyogre and the best partner it can have… Yvelta! a bulky TAILWIND setter with a powerful KNOCK OFF that can take down Kyogre, Giratina, Tapu Lele, Ludicolo and plenty of other overused pokemon thanks to its ability that boosted dark type moves, a thing that INCINEROAR appreciates also. When holding electric seed its defense will get boosted once Koko enters the battle, and once consumed, ACROBATICS will double its power, making huge holes in the opponent´s team.
INCINEROAR is everywhere nowadays and it is thanks to its combination in bulky Fire-type + Fake Out + Intimidate and even U-TURN. No other pokemon in the game has this combo, you might find a bulky fire type, fire types that knows fake out, and fire types with intimidate like ARCANINE, but never this specific combination. U-TURN lets you act as a late pivot, and helps you refresh Intimidate and FAKE OUT to use it again, this makes it a great partner for those who need to set up, like XERNEAS, NECROZMA, GROUNDON, and YVELTA.
FERROTHORN is here because is the best check you gonna find for Kyogre thanks to its powerful POWER WHIP that goes straight into kyogre’s defense and the way it can tank all KYOGRE´s moves. Being very slow gets you deal a huge amount of damage with GYRO BALL, a move that XERNEAS is scared of, as it has no moves to deal with FERROTHORN.
VENUSAUR is here for only one reason, teams with GROUNDON, so it can outspeed anything thanks to its ability in chlorophyll and deal with it with its strong SOLAR BEAM. SLUDGE BOMB helps you deal with XERNEAS if it hasn’t set GEOMANCY yet. GIGA DRAIN helps you deal some damage while restoring some HP and it is its stab option when there’s no sun.
TAPU KOKO is another great choice for dealing with Kyogre, spamming its overpowered thunder to anything in its way while setting Electric Terrain for Yvelta. Thanks to VOLT SWITCH it can act as a fast pivot, dealing a huge damage before leaving the battle. SKY DROP its amazing, as it will let you take away an opponent for a turn, helping its teammates when countering a potential threat.
Now, KYOGRE helps you keep this team together thanks to Drizzle, that mitigates the damage from fire types that can be extremely harmful to FERROTHORN and helping TAPU KOKO spamming an accurate THUNDER,
EVs spread.
An Adamant nature along with 179 EVs in its attack makes YVELTA a powerful physical wall breaker, one that is also bulky thanks to its 188 HP and 148 special defense investment.
INCINEROAR has the typical EV spread and nature, maximizing its HP and attack, with an adamant nature also, for more power. 76 ev can be taken from its HP and put in its speed to outrun some treats like metagross under tailwind.
Ferrothorn appreciates all the investment in its HP and defense to become a powerful physical wall, capable of taking one FLARE BLITZ from incineroar under the rain. A relaxed nature makes it a more efficient user of GYRO BALL and works incredible good when opponents set TRICK ROOM.
Our friend VENUSAUR has a simple EV spread, one that maximizes its special attack and speed to fill its role in the team, deal with GROUDON.
TAPU KOKO appreciates a bit of invest in its bulk, that’s why 60 in its HP and 40 in its special defense along with its assault vest allows it to survive a hit from KYOGRE´s ORIGIN PULSE. 164 EV points in its speed are enough thanks to the boost it receives from tailwind while 144 in its special attack with a modest nature makes it a successful special attacker.
In order for KYOGRE to function the best it can, a full spread in its speed is necessary with its choice scarf, as sometimes you won’t have the opportunity to set TAILWIND first, and you will always have to outspeed your opponents for kyogre to be the best it can be. 252 evs in its special attack makes a huge wall breaker.

Many thanks to Christopher Jenkins for the voice and narration on the videos!
